We do not have a Group with the sole purpose of organising excursions to places of interest both locally and further afield. But that doesn’t mean that we never leave the Burton Joyce area.

Instead, from time to time individual members take it upon themselves to organise one-off trips and visits which are open to all members of our U3A.

Also some of our Groups arrange visits either as part of their normal activities, such as our Antiques and Collectibles Groups who go to various Antiques Fairs, or arrange visits to locations of interest to their Group, such as our Gardening Groups who occasionally visit particular gardens. Whilst these are normally restricted to members of the organising Group, sometimes the Group does open up participation in the visits to non-Group members.

Our travel arrangements depend on the distance from Burton Joyce and number of people participating in the event. So private cars, the community minibus or a hired coach can be used in any combination as required.

Examples of excursions in 2013 were a visit to HRH The Prince of Wales’s Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire, and the well-known Bluebell Arboretum and Nursery in Leicestershire. In 2014, members visited the Houses of Parliament and Westminster, enjoyed a boat trip on the River Trent, and visited the Eglantine Vineyard south of Nottingham to taste their locally produced wines.

In 2015, there was a holiday in France organised by our U3A, which included Nancy and Strasbourg.

We have several visits planned for 2016.

Back to Groups

All trips whether organised by one of our Groups as part of its activities, or

by one of our members specifically

for the benefit of our members are

fully covered by our insurance.

Unfortunately, we do not allow non-members or prospective members of our U3A to participate in our excursions due to the conditions imposed by our insurers.

The costs of such outings are borne

by the members participating, and

any excess funds are returned to the participants or become part of our general U3A funds as our members

are not permitted to gain financially

from U3A activities.
