Description: Mahjong is a game that originated in China, normally played by four players at a square table.
It is a game of skill and strategy and involves a certain degree of chance.
Although it can be a gambling game, we play purely for fun! The four player table version should not be confused with the computer game (Mahjong solitaire).
The game is played with a set of 152 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols and is started by building the .great wall of China', discarding tiles and collecting sets until players complete a legal hand.
By the end of the first session, you won't know it all, but you will know how to play and to form a basic mahjong hand.
Mah-Jong involves adding and discarding tiles from your hand to make melds. It is believed by some to be the ancestor of card games such as Rummy and Canasta which also involves making melds by adding and discarding cards.
