Computer Studies  is intended for members with computers, tablets, and smartphones that use any version of Microsoft Windows®.

Computer Studies

Until a few years ago, the vast majority of computer users had IBM compatible computers using Microsoft Windows®. However the success of tablet computers, in particular the Apple iPad® has significantly changed that and many people now use tablet computers at home to “surf the net”. This variety of devices used at home and the wide range of members’ experience and knowledge of computers has made it impracticable to have a programme of talks on specific topics. So we try to help members with their specific problems, and this means that we have to restrict the numbers in the Groups and also stream the Groups according to the way that the computer works.

We have one group at present to help members how to get the best out of their computers, etc..

Back to Groups

To help members get more from their computers, we have produced a short booklet explaining many of the more common terms used when talking

about computers.

This booklet is available to all

members of our Computer Studies Group on request.

If you have a computer and you use it to “surf” the internet, or use online banking or shop online, you should always have a firewall and anti-virus software installed on your computer. Many computers, including the latest versions of Windows, have a firewall installed.

Make sure that your computer is set up to receive the latest operating and program security updates and also the latest updates for your anti-virus software.
